| Fishborne zoonotic
parasites represent a severe health problem in
South East Asia. In 1995 WHO estimated that in
Vietnam alone at least 1 million people were
infected and that the number of infected people
was likely to rise. People are usually infected
when eating raw or inadequately cooked fish.
FIBOZOPA works to create awareness of occurrence
and risks related to parasites in farmed
freshwater fish in Vietnam. How do parasites in
fish affect human beings, how are fish infected
and what can be done in order to avoid people
getting infected? These are some of the
questions that FIBOZOPA will respond to.
FIBOZOPA is a research capacity building project
in close collaboration between Danida,
Vietnamese and Danish institutions. The project
officially started 1st September 2005 and will
cover a period of 3 years. Funding for the first
phase is approximately 10 million Danish kroner
equivalent to 1.75 million USD.
